Default Worst Episode of Star Trek (original series):Round 2e

OK, pick the worst episode in this bunch.

Wolf in the Fold: Scotty's girlfriend ends up killed by a mass-murdering energy being.
The Deadly Years: The Bridge crew gets old real fast (not unlike certain Star Trek shows)
Bread and Circuses: The Enterprise visits the Roman Empire
The Way to Eden: Hippies in Space!!
The Savage Curtain: Abraham Lincoln vs Genghis Khan

I picked "The Way to Eden" though "Deadly Years" is pretty bad.

"The Way to Eden" came out in a time where it seemed like many shows just had to have some sort of a "hippie" episode. Lost In Space probably had the worst...

Although The Way to Eden was pretty awful, I picked Bread and Circuses. I wonder how Shatner and Nimoy reacted to the episode's resolution.

"Bread and Circuses" has a special place in my heart because, despite all the afternoon repeats when I was in junior high school, I somehow kept missing the first half of it. It was many years before I finally managed to watch it all the way through.

Those were good years.

Phillip Pine, who played Col Green, looked just like George Wallace, I think it was intentional by Rodenberry....He liked preaching a little too much....I was in Vietnam when it aired on AFVN. We all thought it was an intentional dig against Old George.....

Yeah, I noticed the resemblance too, back then.

One of the themes that evolved in Star Trek was that, due to the intergalactic seeding, we're all basically human and have the same inherent rights, something Wallace was firmly opposed to back in the 60s and early 70s.

Good for Gene!

I thought the intragalactic seeding was exposited in TNG, not TOS....It was a two-parter with all usual suspects, klingons, romulans, cardassians, the usual anthropomorphic alien races..

No Hortas, Medeusans, Tholians, or sentient gas-clouds need apply.
