Maybe they renamed it Mir 2 upon completion...

No way they kept it a minute more than they had to. No, it's been replaced by more practical designs not limited by Shuttle payloads and international politics.

Still, if it's up there, why throw it away? Maybe I'll just write ISS instead of Mir 2 in the story.

NONONONOOOOO!!!!!! Please don't sully what has so far been a wonderful fantasy with a specter of disappointment. In the world that leads to Lunar vacations, the series of debacles and compromises that led to the ISS would never have happened.

If you must have it, just say the ISS is a museum piece (in an orbital museum, natch). Kids can crawl through some of the tunnels and such. Call the new station Skylab IX or something.

Having it in a museum sounds like a good idea.

How about in an orbiting museum where it floats in the middle of a large spinning cylinder that produces artificual gravity for the station. You can explain how they built the spinning part around the old station to preserve it and enclose it in it's own vacuum chamber

That's one big museum.

Well, only the middle part would be museum. The rest of the station could be shops and entertainment. Make it one big edu-tainment theme park.

Nope. Orbital structures can be a lot bigger than the paltry space stations of the real-world present, as the building materials are sent down-gravity rather than up and there's a lot more builders in space "now". So a museum could be large enough to tuck the ISS away in a single wing.

I've finished the rough draft. Do you think its okay to use the abreviation "LOL" in the story or would not enough people understand it?

Most reviewers write on the internet these days. They'll know. And the few that don't, you'll never know about, because they only publish in rinky-dink local papers.

You're right. But I didn't use any other abreviations, for the sake of clarity.
