Yes, they are extraordinarily misguided, mistaken and deluded. And for people like that who put down cults, they have raised the bar for such ridiculous
followers of nonsense. And......like one famous Chinese philosopher once said:
"Just dig a hole that is deep enough.......
......and everybody will want to jump in ! "

At the risk of getting political-- and Mods, feel free to delete this if you think it is-- part of the problem is that the same groups of extremists who support ID/Creationism in schools also have a great deal of clout in certain political groups. So it's not just a matter of public opinion, it's a matter of opportunistic politicians who don't want to lose votes, donations or influence.

Someone on a thread on Panda's Thumb said this would be a good time to break out the hot dogs, beer and big foam pointing hands with "#1" written on them. I concur.

I'm definitely making popcorn and cheering. Maybe I'll think up a victory dance.

The invertebrate shuffle?

The Cambrian Rag? Or maybe the Disco Duckbilled Platypus.

Anything is better than an ID'er doing the "Twist".

Unless that's immediately followed by "...in the wind."

Exactly. If you acknowledge the noise ID'ers make, they say "see, the 'debate' on evolution is not settled yet!"
We are doing evolution in school and our textbook practically fell over itself stressing how "unsure scientists are" are that humans evolved from apes. I was so shocked that I went into my rapper mode:
"What? C'mon, peeps, this be New York. We down wit' evolution. Darwin our homeboy."

There are a few scientists who are still unsure. Somewhere. Not many of them are paleontologists or biologists.

Just as there is a Creationist Museum. In fact, there are probably some there.

It depends on what is meant by "apes." Modern great apes are our evolutionary cousins, not our ancestors. However, there is no realistic doubt that our ancestors must have been very apelike primates.

Agreed. I'm definitely glad I stumbled across the fact that this was on tonight. Well worth watching.

A fascinating program. And I learned of that "missing link" transitional fossil, "cdesign proponentsists".

I didn't expect to laugh out loud during this program, but I did.

Not scientific, (or new, having mentioned it once before on this board): Being a pretty smart guy, if Michael Behe can't figure out how a particular biological system evolved, it must be irreducibly complex, ergo, YouKnowWho created it.

Same here. How ironic and a great way to accidentally demonstrate intermediary development in simple terms by the group of people that deny transitional forms.

I thought the presentation was excellent. The points they presented were very clear and they obviously tried to get the view of both sides.

It was sad to see threats and strife arise against those that were pro-science, especially those that were fellow Christians; that is not Christian behavior. It was great to see truth and logic win.

How can you teach critical thinking about evolution without any actual criticism?
Well, fringe beliefs shouldn't be part of a science course.

But if a student brings up the subject, I think it would be proper to give ID's criticisms of evolutionary theory all the time they deserve.

Then after about 20 seconds the class can move on to something meaningful.

I DVRed the two hour presentation, so if there's any question about who said what, feel free to ask. If something is unintelligible (even by design), I'll report it as such.

Well done show. I could go on about how the creationists are really after a desire to wedge authoritarian rule of our country but politics is not part of this forum.

In support of rational scientific thought, my wife suggested we wear mousetrap tie clips.
Bravo Nova.

Except in a very limited way relating to ID/Creationism and space. I did get a kick out of the explanation for the kinder, gentler version of the wedge strategy. I wonder how long it took them to come up with that story, after they realized what a mess they had when that document went public?
