Default GOOD Astronomy on Cartoon Network

My younger brother was watching some show on Cartoon Network where a kid was talking to an alien who was dating a werewolf (For real). I think it was called Out of Jimmy's Head or something like that.
Anyway, the alien says to the kid "You skipped school? Your parents are going to ground you for the next Martian year. That's 2.1 Earth years."
I had just finished writing an article about the MERs, so I knew that this was correct. How surprising!

According to the show's creator, He picked that one (Careers in Science) as the worst one.....(I wonder why all the women that Brock Sampson is hot for are always Russian???)

he goes for the Russians because he's a trained government spy- and i guess he just has a thing for "bad" girls.
and how can that be the worst episode? it has a space station with a red light that blinks whenever there is a problem, and we find out that a space suit can't be used as a portable zero-g bathroom.

the only good thing about that show "the Big Bang Theory" is the blonde across the hall.

I actually saw some good orbital physics in a cartoon, the Real Ghostbusters; they were busting ghosts on a space station, and one took over the main computer to crash the station. One of the GBs (Winston) specifically mentioned that the station's rocket was being fired forward, so that they would slow down and drop out of orbit. Even as a kid, I was blown away that they included some real physics in a cartoon about ghosts! The episode's portrayal of zero-g movements and action-reaction when they fired their blasters was also handled in a (relatively) fairly realistic fashion. It wouldn't be until I saw Cowboy Bebop that I'd see it animated better.

Hey, I resent that! I put real science in my fun adventure stories about ghosts. (Bet you've never seen a story about ghosts that included black smokers and tube worms.)

I saw a G.I. Joe episode involving giant mutant tubeworms, but it had very bad science. No ghosts, though.

i think that was the very first episode of GIJoe, and they had them scuba dive down to the deepest part of the ocean, where they proceeded to have a gunfight with COBRA..
i haven't seen that show for probably 20 years, but i do remember the tubeworms..

That is just plain Bad Oceanography. You can't get to where Tube Worms are just by scuba diving.

but GI Joe can- they go wherever they are needed, to fight for truth, justice, and the American way.
if COBRA scientists can steal a formula that turns water into a bomb, then GI Joe can scuba dive into the Marianas Trench.
and when it's all over, they teach you how to not fight on the playground or whatever..
so now you know- and knowing is half the battle.

Not to mention weather control cannons, mass teleporters, a terrorist organization that wastes millions on a snake-themed palace that rises out of the sand on command, guns that never kill anyone, and COBRA-LA!

but Major Bludd and Destro were pretty cool, and Serpentor was as evil, strong, and intelligent as all of the evil people that were used to clone him.

I stopped expecting veracity in anything mentioned as a fact in a Cartoon Network production after I saw the claim that the national symbol of Ireland is the four-leaf clover.

You mean you expected it before that?

There's nothing wrong with a cartoon that gets a few things right, although I understand that that would be very rare.

Blasphemer!!! I know that nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, but keep your eyes peeled for it.

Oh, and by the way, that actress wasn't bad eye candy in "8 Simple Rules" either But that's not what I watch BBT for. I love the show--it's my favorite new sitcom... well, perhaps tied with "Pushing Daisies".

what do you like best about that show?
is it the way they portray intelligent people as socially inept nerds that would rather play World of Warcraft than go out into the sunlight, or they way they say a bunch of big words to get an easy laugh?
i don't really like the show, but it's the only thing on at that time that's even remotely watchable, and if i had to pick any character besides the yummy blonde girl, my favorite character would be the stereotypical Indian nerd.
