I'm sorry I have to call this, but "Shark, ahoy!!!"
- McKay's technobabble is now getting properly Voyageresque.
- Replicator nanites now apparently do hair styling.
- I'd rather they do less ambitious viseffects but do them really well.
- The emotional reaction to Weir's impending doom was handled badly. Poorly written, poorly paced, poorly acted. I expect better from this team.
- The new opening credits gave it away completely that Weir was going to die. This opening was no 'Maelstrom' from BSG by a long shot.
Now onto the bad astronomy.
Okay so we have the usual dense asteroid bizzo. Though credit where credit is due, the pieces were no bigger than a building.
When landing on the new planet, we have the rip off of Apollo 13 with the whole re-entry thing and not getting too shallow or too steep in the entry angle. They forgot one little thing though: that only applies when making an unpowered entry. If you have engines to power in, you can do the whole thing gently. And they do of course, because they have the engines to depart a planet in the first place.
