It will be interesting to see what fine example of television programming CBS will put in Jericho's spot next fall. My bet's on a Big Brother/Survivors cross, or a new game show, Are You Smarter Than a CBS Executive?.

The article I read speculated that, with a built-in loyal audience, the show could find its way to a smaller network or to cable. We'll see.

Eight. That actually wasn't too bad a show - if the writers' strike hadn't happened, it may have started picking up viewers.

Um... wouldn't you pretty much have to be?

(I've known slime molds smarter than a CBS executive)

I was saddened to see an announcement about the show's cancellation in the morning newspaper, particularly since the "second season" episodes have been getting better and better. I wonder if the Sci Fi Channel would be interested in picking up Jericho as an ongoing series.

I wouldn't bet on it. The SciFi channel wouldn't know a good show if it leapt up and bit them in the ***.

TNT would be a better bet.

Well, SciFi is running Jericho first season eps. They could get interested in picking it up. I just hope they'd keep their fingers out of the pie.

Remember network execs also cancelled ST:TOS, and Firefly, we are not talking about great minds of the century here folks.

Supposing the show ends up saved by a cable network, it will be sort of a bummer to see a series finale, but hopefully it still leaves plenty of room for more seasons.

The episode did wrap things up pretty well (and I loved that the Texas ANG shot first and w/o warning... Ranger blood in them fly-fly boys!) but...

There is a story left to be told, and
Who says they can't go back to the season-ending ending if the show gets picked up?

The article mentions Joss Whedon's Firefly as an example of a show that found extended life in other media. It forgot to mention Whedon's other cancelled series that came back, Buffy.

Heck, the network had her killed off, and she still did two more seasons. All of the major characters in Jericho survived the finale.

The finale left an opening for a continuation: "The Second American Civil War". And this time I'm betting on the South!
The Dragon can be killed.

In the context of Jericho, that would have to be the East.

From what I remember from that time, and I was quite the avid fan as one of my tattoos attests, Buffy was never actually cancelled.

WB indicated that the projected cost of the next season was higher than what they could afford to pay, so Fox looked for other bidders and found UPN who where willing to pay for the last seasons.

Note that this is Fox the production company, not Fox the TV channel, theres a vast difference in competence between those two.

Unless I'm mistaken about when you're thinking it got cancelled and returned.

"Cancelled" the same way Jericho was... the network decided not to pick up the contract for another season. The difference was that Whedon was given more than a week's warning; he was able to shop the show around and find a new home prior to the end of the season, but after the cancellation announcement.
