I hope they load the soundtrack with lots of heavy metal. This is BLEEPIN' IRON MAN!!!!! The original heavy metal hero. I think it's the old farts who are gonna fill the theaters for this flick. I certainly look forward to it.

The Black Sabbath song describes Iron Man going on a revenge rampage and slaughtering a lot of defenseless people. In fact, it ends there. I always thought he was a villain, not a hero. Is the revenge thing a part of the comic books' story? If so, that would make a pretty unique superhero story twist.
Not that I'm particularly interested in the band members getting any richer than they already are, but it would be pretty cool if they worked in a scene in which the character, with graty modulation through the metal outfit, said the same "I am Iron Man!" line that's in the song, not just the words but even the same sound, or even extracted right from the song. It's altered enough that it could sound like an altered version of almost anybody's voice, not just Ozzy's... |

The song describes a man who was turned to steel during a time-travel experiment, or some such. It's not about Marvel's Iron Man.

Ghost Riders in the Sky is about a cowboy that sees the ghosts herding the devil's herd of cattle, not about the comic book--and it made it into the movie...

My understanding is that Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" is a reference to the novel "The Iron Giant".
But having never read the book, I cannot be certain. (Edit to add) Another thought. Am I the only one who is stricken with visions of Beavis and Butthead going "Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah NANANANANANA Nah Nah Nah!" and headbanging when ever they head that song now?

I doubt the Iron Man/Iron Giant connection. I've read the (short) book, and the Iron Giant is pretty much a good guy all the way through.
And no, I do not see B&BH doing anything. I scrupulously avoided that program. Fred

Yeeha - looks cool. I wonder if he still needs to plug himself into the mains to recharge his pacemaker. I can remember the comic book Iron Man often running out of power and his diseased ticker nearly killing him.

But unless it's really, reeeeeally different from the movie, no, I doubt it is based on that.
