Default Last Starfighter 2: Intergalactic Boogaloo

Why?
Quote:
Yesterday it was just a rumor, but today it's pretty much confirmed - The Last Starfighter is getting a sequel. Like The Lost Boys before it, they're now revisiting classic 80's movies and ripping everything good out of them and then turning them into modernized Hollywood piles of crap. Our friends at Cinema Blend have been hard at work uncovering all of the details about this sequel, and it doesn't sound too good, but who am I to say that this early in the game? One thing is for sure - we've officially entered the era of the 80's revisited in Hollywood. With Transformers turning out to be a huge hit, they're out finding every last nostalgic 80's "whatever" and revisiting it again, from G.I. Joe to The Last Starfighter to Akira.
To whomever greenlit this, I have only one thing to say: You go to Hell! You go to Hell and you die!

When are they going to remake Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi? Those were eighties movies.

So like, in the last Starfighter, it was a really big deal for someone to beat the game machine and prove that they were good enough to pilot a starfighter. What I couldn't figure out is, if the game machine is so darn good, why didn't they use the machines as starfighter pilots? It makes no sense to recruit a human when they couldn't have just used some of our 64k computers.

the game was just a simulator.
if i recall correctly, The Last Starfighter ws the first big movie to use a lot of computer animation.. maybe, just to be silly, they could do it all with actual physical models this time around, just to turn everything on it's head..

are they making a sequel to Tron yet?

I recently watched the Last Starfighter recently...I suppose the effects weren't bad for the time...but yegads, the story line and dialogue....yikes...

Only if there's a "kneecap on sight" order put out on George Lucas if he gets within zombie shambling distance of the set.

I wouldn't know, I'm just a user.

They're talking sequel, not remake.

So, yes, ESB and ROTJ have had "sequels" made.

It is left to the reader to decide if this is/was a good thing or a bad thing.

That would be silly. Everybody knows that nothing can stop Lucas!

And before you decide, consider that they were my introduction to the whole wonderful galaxy of Star Wars.

Well, Robert Preston is dead, so that might make it difficult. I just hope they don't cast Matthew Broderick in his place; his attempt to play Preston's role in "The Music Man" was horrible, IMHO.

But I found nothing wrong with the story in the original. It was gee-whiz and unlikely, but they hung a lampshade on it as a plot point.

I love the prequels. I even like Jar-Jar Binks.
When I was a little kid, there were four heroines I wanted to be like:
1) Queen Amidala
2) Velma Dinkley
3) Fa Mulan
4) Ellie Arroway

Well that's just unfair. You know Australians have a phobia about it since you dropped the last one on our heads.
