Folks.
How close to what might be possible do you think some of the more realistic and deeper films from around the World that concern us and what might be out there, are? I enjoy film's like Alien and Aliens for the ride, but what about more serious Films, for example ... 2001 2010 Contact I like to think these 3 Films (I'm sure there are more in this category) are more plausible examples of what lies ahead for us in reality. What do you think? |

i've always liked the way the Stargate movie portrayed our first dealings with E.T., and the way the series expanded on that and somehow managed to keep it grounded in something close to reality. for the first few seasons, the humans just kind of stumbled in to the deep end of the pool and somehow managed to not drown, which is pretty much how it would probably be if we found a ring that transported us all over the galaxy and didn't get wiped out right away.

Solaris. Either the original Russian of the George Cloony remake. The thing I liked most about the remake was they kept the slooooow pacing of the original. Doesn't feel like an American movie at all.
Thought-provoking in that it pointed out that no alien species is in any way obligated to be understandable by the likes of us, & resisted the annoying Hollywood urge to explain everything at the 3rd grader level. They never explained ANYTHING. |

Also, 2001 as far as whats possible in physics in outer space is still not too far far of the mark in many ways and the detail is exquisite, largely due to Arthur C Clarkes involvement I guess? If it had not been for this single film when I was young I might have watched Star Wars and Star Trek and developed no further interest in real life space exploration or astronomy. Not saying I don't enjoy Star Wars or even Close Encounters or Alien/Aliens, they are just a different kettle of fish .... I guess I phrased my original question wrong? I'm new here ![]() But, yup ... Bladerunner especially the new version in Blu Ray HD is a blast. |
