Smile Corollary to Third Law of Robotics

Asimov's Third Law: "A robot must protect its own existence."

Corollary: "Production lines change. When you are old enough, the only source of replacement parts are other old robots."

Maybe it's time to send R. Daneel Olivaw to look for Bigweld?

The complete third law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Simple solution: A human orders it to stop scavenging, and takes out its power supply.

Corollary to the corollary: Hence, when robots go out of production, they must all be shipped off to giant gladiator arenas where they will fight each other thunderdome-style for the possibility to stay running a little longer.
Wait, I think they already did that in AI.

Any idea what the Fourth Law of Robotics should be?

I have heard of the Zeroth law, "No robot may cause harm, through action or inaction, to the whole of humanity."
*shudder*

Beware the law of unintended consequences.

While not actually a robot, Colossus apparently took the "Zeroth law" to heart.

I remember that Asimov invented that in a robot story (invented by the robots themselves), "That Thou Art Mindful of Him!"

Wait, isn't the Zeroth Law "A robot shall know it is a robot" ? So that a robot won't think it's a person and the Laws don't apply to it? Because I heard that somewhere.

Asimov's Zeroth Law was the one mentioned above about humanity as a whole.

The 0th, 4th, and 5th laws are mentioned in the Wikipedia article on Three laws of robotics.

And the 6th Law states that robots shall always cut taxes.

Ghost in the Shell: Innocence interprets the Third law as "A robot shall protect its own existence and never cause a human harm". Followed by the corollary "If a robot has caused a human harm, it shall destroy itself".

Weird.

Law 4: One of the first three laws must be creatively interpreted periodically to keep the books selling.
