Cool Tierney Lab Astronomy Quiz

The New York Times is offering an Astronomy Quiz from Tierney Lab via this link:

http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/

Its actually pretty good. Only 10 questions that are mostly oriented toward space exploration.

The options made it pretty easy. If, for example, the choices for the first American woman in space were one year apart (instead of twenty), I might have gotten it wrong. As it was, there was only one reasonable answer.

Yes, applying logic helps in the answers, (a bit humorous to say while looking at your avatar.) I hesitated a bit with the Mariner question but remembered. Still and all, a fun quickie quiz.

What Swift said. I read Chip's comment before taking the quiz, and it made me reconsider my guess.

I wish there was feedback for your answers on that quiz, giving a short explanation.

9/10. The only stoopid answer I gave was picking the Big Dipper Constellation instead of asterism. Everybody knows it's the Big Bopper.

Wow! I got 10/10. I can't believe I beat all the astrodudes.

Please allow this English major his moment of vacuous self-aggrandisement.

I didn't really apply logic to the women in space question. I asked, how long would it take a country as institutionally sexist as the US to put a woman in space? My gut reaction was 20 years. Logic doesn't really apply to sexism.

It seems there are at least two tests, or changing questions. I didn't get astronauts or Marinades.

I didn't get Dipped, so it seems that you're right.

There are three extra "bonus questions" under the text link to the test, further down under the picture - (linked from the words "read more...")

And that first question would make 99% of my students run away screaming.
