And man, does it look awesome! (Note video autoplays, with sound and is really freakin' loud.) They're not doing a "true-to-form" remake, which is okay, given that Hollywood seems to have lost the ability to do camp. This version appears to be a cross between Mad Max and The Running Man (nothing which isn't spelled out in the trailer, so no spoiler). Jason Statham plays Jensen Aimes a NASCAR driver sent to prison for murder. One of the TV networks has created "Death Race" which has the prisoners driving hopped up and armed cars on a track, whomever survives gets to go free. For reasons not made clear in the trailer (other than some very nice eye candy), each driver gets a navigator, who is bused in from the women's prison. Looks to be lots of fast cars, hot chicks, automatic weapons fire, and explosions!

I thought the same thing! Somewhere in a box in my attic are a bunch of rulebooks, maps, and a Ziploc bag of cardboard counters. Maybe I should go look for them.

I should have known the theme did not pass unnoticed by modern game compainies. My gaming knowlege is restricted to a few genres and I haven't embraced the deathrace theme.
I was going to give GTA4 a shot but it got returned to the rental place before I got a chance.

There was an old DOS game years ago called "Death Track" that was pretty much the same thing. I vaguely remember it even had the same plot, i.e. cons racing for a "get out of jail free card." The movie should be fun so long as it doesn't take itself seriously, although that's a big caveat these days.

Saw the movie last weekend, and it wasn't bad (worth a rental, at least). I will say that it should have had a better script (much of the beginning could have be cut out, or treated as flashback material for better effect). It attempts Robocop-style satire, but doesn't quite succeed (doesn't harm the film or fall flat, however).
It should be noted, however, that this movie suffers from a distinct lack of naked boobies, and as we all know, naked boobies make everything better. The action sequences are, for the most part, great. There's some confusion as you don't know who some of the drivers are that get pasted, and the cars aren't entirely distinctive underneath all the armor plating. (They all seem to be grey or black painted, with touches of other colors elsewhere, it would have been much better if each car had a distinctive paint scheme.) Still, its hard to complain about cars shooting at each other with gatling guns, dropping caltrops, oil, smoke screens and napalm.

Car chases, gunfire, explosions, hot (though apparently clothed)women....What's not to love?
For that kind of film, do we really need a plot? Wouldn't a Bismarck-sized tub of popcorn, a Nimitz-sized drink, and some loud, heavy metal (or WTH kind of stuff you listen to) music top it off nicely?

Just saw it. Not bad. A few whacky fumbles in the plot. Nothing, though, that would sink the film. It's a good action-packed film. A must-see for Jason Statham fans.

Natalie Martinez (Case the Navigator) is destined to be the new 'it' girl. So lovely!
The film would make for a good console game.
