Good educated guess, but...nope...

On the right track...but this one is a little more "nuts and bolts"...

Time for more hints.

Last two lines of the book.

Quote:
"It's a date, Joe. And----do you know, I must be the first girl in the world to make a date with a man in the moon?"

Wow. "The first girl..." 60's, eh?

How about Apollo at Go?

Or maybe (gasp) Countdown for Cindy?

Gasp is right! But the books aren't. 8)

Here are more hints:

Another book by the author is Operation Terror. The name "Jenkins" is of some importance.

BTW, my bad, the original publication date was during the 1950s, not the '60s (my copy is a reprint that had the date of the original buried in fine print).

City on the Moon, by Murray Leinster?

(Massive Googling to pick out this one, but no apologies after all this time.)

Never heard of the book, but "Murray Leinster" was the pen name of Will F. Jenkins, that I know.

I'm sure it's a Leinster, though I'm not sure if it's that specific one.

One of these days I'll get one of these when I actually have time to do a proper job with it. For now, here goes:

Quote:
The secret itself was still safe. It was clear that the public not yet could have learned it. No; the nature of the tremendous and terrific Discovery remained locked in the breasts of the men who had made it.
