Default Star Trek XI- I've already forgotten it

Not that it was a bad movie....just that it never stuck in my head like Wrath of Khan (which I still enjoy from time to time) or Undiscovered County or The Voyage Home.....etc....it just didn't have an impact on me like those othe great movies did. PLEASE DO NOT (AS RUMOUR HAS IT) REMAKE A VERSION OF KHAN.....

I was frankly awed, but mainly because of the IMO great SFX.
And it also told us a lot about the background.
But indeed it didn't do too well at the box office - old Trekkers might take offense at the new faces and new to-be Trekkers might not have the helpful background knowledge to understand the movie.

LOL, well at least the Trek tradition of using time travel as a plot device is still alive.

I don't think it was new faces...overall the main actors did a great job (within the script) of capturing the characters. The special effects were indeed quite good, although the new warp sound still bugs me.

I just think that you'll have different expectations from different people on what a Star Trek movie should "feel" like. This was a good action movie that took from Star Trek history, but it didn't feel Trek to me. I did like how it gave a more realistic touch to the surroundings, and I was okay with the shaky cam approach. Maybe it was that it felt rushed for the action, and not so much time for showing more of the character depth.

Was the old Star Trek more dialogue/monologue driven maybe, where this was one liners and flashy screenshots?

How do you define "do too well"?

Domestically, It is the highest-grossing "Star Trek" movie ever, the 2nd highest-grossing film so far of 2009 (behind "Up"), and the 50th highest-grossing film ever.

Seems like that's nothing to sneeze at...

However, the "Whale Movie" has not only a lot of humor derived from the fact that the Crew from the 23rd Century lands in the 20th but is also the most accessible for people who don't like SF too much because it is "down to Earth".

The movie was great fun. But it certainly wasn't anything especially original. It entertained for sure, which means it did its job. But without any follow up, it could easily be forgotten in time.

Even the drekky Trek of the Voyager and Enterprise years was memorable for its sheer drekkiness.

While NuTrek didn't break any molds, it also may fall victim to not being sucky either. I mean everyone remembers Armageddon. Who remembers Deep Impact?

You'd ask a question like that around here?

I don't remember much of Armageddon. It was so bad, I stopped watching it. I did watch Deep Impact (a couple of times) and remember it well.

Here, this will help you remember the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUUhT...layer_embedded

(And they can't remake TWoK, nobody's thawed Khan out, yet. They could remake the Space Seed episode, and no doubt they'd probably get Dewayne "The Rock" (but don't tell anybody that's who I was, now) Johnson to play Khan.)

the timeline has been altered, so they could run into Khan under different circumstances- with OldSpock warning YoungKirk about how evil this dude is before they hit the "defrost" button, which would change the way they treated him right from the beginning.

Which leads to one of my beefs with the movie: They just let OldSpockTM wander off! Yes, the time lines have been altered, so some of the things he knew about from his time line would be worthless, but a great deal of his technical knowledge would not. You could leapfrog a whole lotta stuff just by talking to him about things.

he didn't just "wander off"- he is on New Vulcan helping to rebuild his civilization.
not only does he have all that technical knowledge, but he could also warn them about the existence of the Borg and the location of Data's severed head underneath San Francisco..
