Actually, coming soon is Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. I'm already on the hold list for it. I'll keep you posted.

Of Mice and Mole-Men? Have a few years on that one though.

For some reasons, this reminds me of the Monty Python sketch "News for Parrots"

That was A Tale of Two Cities specially adapted for parrots by Joey-Boy.

Now perhaps somebody should follow up on my English class' idea of To Kill A Mockingbird with superheroes.

So, it really was a good read Gillianren?
I had pre-ordered it, but the order got muddled up and I never got it. I'd been looking forward to it for so long. I'm thinking I should re-order it - you'd recommend this one? Did you see the bet the author had with his publisher? I think they had to buy him a goat due to hitting however many Amazon pre-orders or something along those lines. Creative contracts - got to love them!

I did quite enjoy it, yes. It's not anywhere near the top of my list to buy, but since that's an awfully long list, well, neither are a lot of books I really like. I haven't actually read Pride and Prejudice yet, though I do own a copy, but I knew enough of the story to kind of follow along. I'm told by people who have read Pride and Prejudice that it's astonishing how close it is in places. Also bear in mind that I usually find zombies boring. The only way I got through Night of the Living Dead was the Rifftrax version. This? This I found amusing, probably because I found the living so interesting and detailed, and it was rather more about them.

Heh heh. I haven't read Pride & Prejudice yet either, but have seen a couple of the movie versions (past girlfriends who've told me to sit, stay, watch - good boy!) so I'm a little familiar with the story. I also have read a number of reviews of it that say it is fairly true to the original, except for the zombie bits, so I'm rather keen to check it out.
Zombies, vampires and all that sort of thing aren't my bag. This sounds too humorous to pass up though. Always good to get a perspective from a trusted source though, so thanks.

Like a number of the folk here, I've read enough of your posts to hold your opinion in high esteem.
So... my pleasure.

I've got this book and it's a hoot.
And despite the zombie element, it's still sometimes a bit "dry." I can't imagine reading the original (must be a real snoozefest).Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (?) I'll look for it. |

Okay, I've finished it. I can officially declare that it's not as good and not as funny. It's trying too hard, for one. It's all hyped up on portraying the ridiculousness of how people of that era treated servants, and a lot of the minor plot points are unnecessary. Silly, I can handle. Silly? That's what it's supposed to be. Boring, not so much.
I am amused, however, by a reference late in the book that the illness one character has is not lupus.

ETA: Wait. After I typed that I went for a quick shower. While gazing at the reflection of my nubile body I realized that obviously that would've been couched within the context of the Sense... story line, which I don't know, and shouldn't expect a quick capsule summary of. (I would've deleted this post but I though someone may have already read it, and it might cause confusion.)

Oh, I just realized this thread was about the first one, and my report was about the second--I was talking about Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, to clear up any confusion.
