Default Retro Rocket design is identical to Universe Today logo

These "Burning Man Festival" artists are building a large retro 1940s SF style rocket ship called the "Raygun Gothic Rocketship". It looks exactly like the design in the Universe Today logo. If the Universe Today design is a registered trademark then it is definite infringement....

It's similar, not quite identical though.

Is there something odd as to why they look similar?

It's called retro because that's what people thought rockets should look like at one time. So; any stylized or artistic form has a good chance of looking like that.

Google image search "toy rocketship"... you'll see plenty that look similar.

Maybe someone should tell the Luftwaffe, in case they trademarked the V2.

If you want to stretch it...
I passed this rocket on the road this weekend.
Kind of strange, since I first saw it coming the other way up over the crest of a hill.

The car, or the ride?

Yes, it's just a variation on the classic streamlined, V-2 derived, 50s SF rocket.

When it was a ride. They suspended them from cables and spun them around.

At Euclid Beach Park? The spaceship ride, all chrome rockets with red leather seats? When it was fully revved up you were swinging just over the beach at the edge of Lake Erie.

That was a Cool Ride.

I miss Euclid Beach the way New Yorkers miss Coney Island.

The one in Moscow on top of the "Monument to the Conquerors of Space" looks very cool.

Everyone knows that rockets are supposed to look like this and should have sparks come out the back when they fly.

That's just how people imagine rockets as looking. So no, suing wouldn't be possible.

Euclid Beach is now gone. All of the amusement parks in Cleveland were done in by Cedar Point and Kings Island near Dayton.

I went back to visit my hometown two years ago. Cleveland sure has changed since I left in 1970.

I remember that ride. The craft had either an alder, or maybe a cedar point.

Yes, yes it has, for both good and bad. But so have most places.

I see the Rocket Car around here probably a couple of times a year, they do parades quite a bit. The funniest one was about 10 years ago I was in New York City visiting my sister. We pull into this restaurnant parking lot, going to dinner, and there in the lot is the Rocket Car. I chatted with the owner, apparently they were in NY because they were going to be in the Thanksgiving Day parade (this was a couple of days before). The thing has a top speed of only about 40 or 45 mph, so he took a couple of days driving across Pennsylvania on backroads.

Yes, Euclid Beach is long gone, a great amusement park done in by Theme Parks. Still miss the Flying Turns, Flying Scooteers, Aero Dips, Penny Arcade (where the games really were mostly a penny)...

My fave was the Mad Hatter Teacup ride at Disney World and/or Disneyland. You have complete control and you can whip the cup around so fast as to get tunnel vision.

Biggest thing I miss from Cleveland is Ghoulardi and Hoolihan & Big Chuck. Big Chuck retired last year.

And of course, everything has a website, including The Rocket Car.

Gee, I think I saw that link somewhere before.
Maybe it was this thread. (hint, hint)

Of course, with the discussion of the shut down amusement parks... I saw parts of one of Geauga Lake's coasters going by on trucks past my neighborhood last year after the auction.
I don't remember Euclid Beach, but do remember Chippewa Lake.

The Flying Scooters were two-person gondolas swinging around on wires with a steerable rudder you could use to alter their basic trajectory in interesting ways.

Ah, Ghoulardi. Ernie, we miss you. And COOL IT WITH THE BOOM-BOOMS!

A lot of this discussion really hits a lot of memory with me.
I've met Big Chuck on a few occasions, and my mom has notes between her and him that they passed to each other in class in high school.
I've met Little John, and there is a picture floating around somewhere at a wedding with me and my cousins with Little John (who happened to be the shortest) [for reference, Little John is the successor to Houlihan]
I went to High School in Parma (lived in a different burb) and still have ties there. I hated to wear white socks, but did see plenty of pink flamingos (chrome balls were more popular)
And in the Drew Carey department, the last time I went bowling, I did it in Solon (which is the burb I work in).

There's more minutia in my life bordering on widely known retro subjects, but I won't bore anyone (that's probably too late anyway).
