Default Question about 'Ancient Aliens' show

Hi, i'm new here and had a quick question on the Ancient Aliens show. I'm doing a critique on the show for a history class and am focusing on the Nazca Lines. I have pretty much all the research I need, however, I am speculative on some of the sources.

There is an "expert" in the film named Georgio something or other. What is his name and is he credible? I'm doubting it.

Last I checked, Ancient Aliens was not on youtube or anything like that and i'm not paying the HC for a copy.

thanks in advance,

-Dave Wilson

A Google search eventually led me to a web page that appears to have the special in whole. I'm not going to link it here, though, because it appears to be in violation of copyright.

Skimming through it, there's a "Georgio A. Tsoukalos" that speaks. His credit is listed as a publisher of 'Legendary Times Magazine'. If he's who you're looking for, that should help you get a start on checking his cred.

Georgio A. Tsoukalos. The self-proclaimed "real life Indiana Jones".

Not as far as I'm concerned.

Well, he just said that one of the compelling signs that the Columbian artifacts depict planes is that they have vertical tail fins that "are not intrinsic to nature" . . . which sounds convincing, unless you've ever seen a fish.

Or one of my house cats.

Or a lemur.

Or a peacock.

These sensationalists are just what they are. They smack of sensationalism instead of solid journalism. Some of those people are out on the thin edge of the ice.

Thanks guys.

Found the link and watched the stupid show again. It was definitely Georgio A. Tsoukalos. I like the part where he says there is not enough oxygen in the pyramids to have torches, so the egyptians must have invented light bulbs.

But he had a story to prove it! The guides put out their torches and it was too dark to see, so he tried to light his lighter. But it wouldn't work! Too little oxygen!!!

. . . but they were all breathing fine, apparently, and wait . . . weren't the torches just burning a second ago, you know, until the guides supposedly put them out thus prompting him to attempt to light his lighter?

I know, right? I wish my group was doing the pyramid myths but we got stuck with Nazca. This guy doesn't even think before he speaks. I have never studied Egypt in depth, but I bet I could take this guy in a debate.

Our professor even yelled out "bull****!" when that part came up during the class viewing.

The History Channel is so lame these days. I do Civil War film work for them and they are constantly asking us to do things wrong to make it more appealing to viewers or to go with their distorted interpretation of "history."

Don't despair, there is actually quite a lot of interesting and credible things that can be said about the Nazca lines - even on subjects like how they were made and what they were for. There shouldn't be any need to bring our interstellar friends, or even woo-woo psedoarchaeologists, into it. Enjoy!

As I had mentioned yesterday, this thread had inspired me to re-watch the special. That, in turn, inspired me to write a point by point narrative on each of the failings of logic that I see in the show.

One that I'll likely mention (after a bit further digging) on the Nazca lines is that, while one part of the series talks about how remarkably advanced these ancient cultures were at mapping and constructing structures based on the stars, other parts talked about how there was no way they'd be able to create straight lines across mountain ranges. To me, that's an interesting contradiction that might be worth noting.

Skamikaze, you can always submit a critique for extra credit asking whether the "History" channel has the right to call itself anything relating to actual history. Make them change their name!

they aren't "the History Channel" any more- they are just "History". that probably gives them some wiggle room in what they can get away with showing without losing credibility and actually allowing them to make a profit- like how "The Learning Channel" is now just "TLC" and "Scifi" is now "Syfy"...

...No, I mean change it to something not related to history. They dropped every word except the one they should have!
