Default DVD (Dagobah Video-digital Debut)

"Star Wars Trilogy," one of the most-requested DVD episodic film franchises, is expected to be released as a four-disc DVD box set Sept. 21. The trilogy, featuring the classic franchise films "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," will be released on three DVD discs, with a fourth disc likely to hold a newly made documentary about the "Star Wars" franchise and never-before-seen footage, among several other bonus materials, said Jim Ward, Lucasfilm's vp marketing and distribution and the DVD trilogy's executive producer.

Each of the three films in the "Star Wars Trilogy" has been digitally restored and remastered for sound and picture quality, Ward said.

Well, now for a "real" freeze-frame...

Yes, but this time it's out in DVD format!

More money for the starving children of George Lucas. #-o

Is that dang extra Jabba the Hut scene still in it? If so, I think I'll stick with my tapes of the original cut.

Agreed, I hate too much CGI, perhaps they'll screw it up by adding a descendant of 'Binks!!

a) yes, this will only be the Special Editions. We won't see the proper versions released again unless Lucas gets really desperate for cash, or Congress stops extending Copyright law for Disney.

b) I hope to God these look better than the Episode 1 DVD, or they won't even match up to the high image quality standard set by the SE Laserdisc set.

The Jabba scene is the reason why DVD players have a "next chapter" button.
Otherwise, there isn't too much wrong with them. I hope some things change back to the way they were originally (Han firing first, Luke falling without screaming), but I won't hold my breath.

That being said, the kind of penny-pinching Lucas has been up to is making it very tempting to make this my first-ever pirated DVD.

There's no need to go breaking the law like that, you know. The laserdiscs look just fine (better than any pirate DVD of the non-SE cut by far).

It has been said that no work of art is ever finished, only abandoned. If this in fact the case, GL will never stop changing things until the original Star Wars no longer exists. As we speak he is looking for things in the original that he has not ruined yet.

As a kid I would never have inagined that I would pass on a sequel in the SW series. I have seen episode II on a borrowed DVD because my niece wanted to see it. I never saw the need to go to the theatre for it. I do not even want to think about III. I wish I had a memory ray so I could remove any memory of the other four and go back to enjoying the original.

Lucas is threatening to do an ultimate edition Star Wars after EP 3 comes out. One of his proposed changes is to add Padme and Mace to the ghost scene in ROTJ. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't figure out a way to add some Gungans to at least one of the movies. He might at least make the Jabba scene look less fake.

Ok, adding Mace would be a bad idea but I wouldn't demand George's head on a pike; but adding Padme?! The whole Ghost thingy is supposed to be a sort of 'becoming-one-with-the-Force' deal. How is Padme a Non-Jedi supposed to do that?!

I've also heard heard rumors that he wants to digitally age the kid that played Anakin in Episode 2 and 3 and use his face on Darth at the end of ROTJ.

Is it not a bit heartless then to cut him out of the film?

I didn't know he was dead to be honest & i've just found out that Kevin Peter Hall who played the Predator died of AIDs

There was a huge rumor I read a while ago with all kinds of stuff like that. Digitally adding this, putting in CGI that. It was all a load of baloney, but it still sounded eerily enough like stuff that Lucas would actually do.

Don't put anything past him.

By the way, it Episode III actually getting made? If I worked for the studio I think I would hesitate. I guess as long as the movies are making a profit they will keep making them. They just won't be getting any of my money.

Yep - Principal Photography is pretty much done, if memory serves, and they're neck deep in Post. Even if it flops by Star Wars standards they'll still end up with a profit, and in any case if you think the fanboys are mad now due to the lack of non-SE DVDs, imagine what they would do if the final part of the story got cancelled!

If it's anything like the last 2 films, 20th Century Fox is only the distributor, Lucas himself is financing the film.

Do you think Lucas actually knows how much damage he did with JaJa Binks? I mean he was hailed to cult status for the first 3 films and then......

I suffered through Phantom Menace and forgave because I thought after all you have to have something for the kids. But then came attack of the clones and then I lost all hope. I've seen it twice and I still dont get it.

Lucas has gone to the dark side......

[EDIT]
I've just rememberd about the Ewoks..... they should have been a clue to where he was going.

Actually, that would be fun to do as a pirate redub. Hey! I found a purpose for iMovie!

But seriously, I gave up on the franchise with ROTJ, although I wouldn't mind having the *original* unchanged ANH and ESB on DVD.

Man, that's too many acronyms.

I've got 'em. \/

Of course, they're just copies I made off my videotapes with my DVD burner, so they're not as high-quality as we'd get from a commercial release, but nonetheless they're not SE and they're on DVD.

I'll have to redo them after the DL burners come out . . .

I hated the whole scene. The Storm Troopers were supposed to be professionals, and they got their butts kicked by a bunch of teddy bears with sticks and stones. GL said he wanted to show something alalogous to Viet Nam, where low tech insurgents defeated a modern army. If so he completely missed it. Insurgents do not fight pitched battles, or win decisive victories.

I had this friend who was a major Star Wars fanatic. Once, he took me into his room to show me all his SW stuff (which was nearly everything he owned). He decided to play a cassette tape that turned out to be the Ewoks' party song. He then proceeded to sing it, in the Ewok language! I didn't know what to do!

Ohhhh. See, I haven't watched in years, and I certainly don't have a soldier's perspective. And as for something analogous to Vietnam? Ew. #-o I knew I didn't like GL, but now I really don't like him.

As for whoever actually designed the Ewoks though, they are adorable in the teddy bear sense.
