Just a couple quick questions, I guess.

1. How is it thought to work?
2. What is the equation to discover the rate it evapourates the black hole at?

Through particle-pair production. A virtual particle pair becomes a real pair through borrowing energy from near the black hole. They usually annihilate each other after a short time (the time depending on how much energy is borrowed), but, if one could falls into the hole, and the other could escape. The energy that created the escaping particle, escapes from the black hole, thus reducing it's mass (remembering the equivalence of mass and energy).

Try here for the equations and the derivation of them.
