Default venus with an atmosphere like earths

Im just wondering what the average temperature on venus would be if it had an atmosphere that was identical to earths atmosphere. Is venus within the "life zone" so to speak?

According to this NASA website, Venus is just on the inner edge of the sun's life zone. I suspect that means that means that a Venus as you describe would have a temperture pretty close to the upper limits of life could handle, close to the boiling point of water, but that's a guess.

That's one hot drink...I'd imagine the sun would look a little bigger.

bebe7, does this ADD anything to the discussion, does it answer any question? If you want to talk fun, got to OTB.

Here is an infraction for you, you have been told to stop the one liners.

wouldn't there be plenty of high altitude regions....where it would be cooler? Live in the mountains....

I wonder if it's possible to MAKE a large 50km tall mountain on Venus. Maybe you could build up a large circular ring (like a big crater), and fill in the inside with nitrogen filled balloons to support a large plateau to 50km. The temperature and pressure at 50km up is comfortable, and you could use wind powered electric lights to live through the long nights.

IIRC one scenario for Venus current atmosphere is that it had a similar atmosphere to Earth but the higher temperature caused enough water to evaporate and start a runaway greenhouse effect. The water have since photodissociated but has been replaced with "baked out" CO2 and SO2. This could mean that the traditional life zone is a little optimistic in many cases and an earthlike Venus would soon become an venuslike Venus.

Ditto. I don't think an Earthlike Venus would be stable over millions, let alone billions of years; twice the solar constant is quite a burden to shoulder in a delicately balanced system like our own.
