Crescent Iapetus:

His son, Epimetheus:

The large crater in the Epimetheus image is Hilairea, the indentation in the lower left is Pollux. (map) The yellow area at the upper tip of the moon is due to missing data in the UV image used for blue. I hope they got some VIMS data on Epimetheus, as there appear to be some interesting, although subtle, color variations on its surface.

Both images are composites of IR, green, and UV images. I, of course, am the one who put them together.

OK - beaten to it with Epimetheus.....

Here's one of Rhea.

Lots more to come, no doubt, over the next couple of days.

Titan's High Haze

Quote:
Titan's high haze layers are amazing. Cassini captured this detailed view of the relatively faint haze in Titan's upper atmosphere as it receded from its close encounter on March 31, 2005. Similar examples of such complex structures in Titan's haze have been observed previously by Cassini.
Titan's Shifting Hazes

Quote:
This fascinating movie from Cassini shows the changing shapes of features in the outer haze layers of Titan's atmosphere.

Oblique narrow-angle view of the F ring and shepherds, part of a series of about 140 images looking at the same piece of the ring plane:

(By the way, anybody who wants to remind me how to link with BBCode sans the whole URL showing up, feel free - my attempts tend to yield heiroglyphics...)

Code:
[url=http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/images/raw/raw-images-details.cfm?feiImageID=37451]Images![/url]
Just add '=' plus the hyperlink you want to give after '[url' and before ']', and set the link name you want to display between the ']' and the '[/url]'
The result is: Images!

Sister Moons: Dione and Tethys

Cassini offers this lovely comparison between two of Saturn's satellites, Dione and Tethys, which are similar in size but have very different surfaces.

Now that's something. Two moons about the same size, shot from about an approximately equivalent distance, neatly in one frame like that.

Wish I could get photo ops like that.

Epimetheus: Up-Close and Colorful

With this false-color view, Cassini presents the closest look yet at Saturn's small moon Epimetheus.

I didn't mean I ToSeeked you, I meant I ToSeeked NASA by posting a color image before they did. If that isn't ToSeeking, then I guess it must be um3k-ing.

OOOh again. Mostly concentrating on the rings for these few orbits, but this one - shadow on rings, three moons in line - should have gone into "2001" if they had left TMA-2 on Iapetus: IMAGE

Or perhaps that's what a well-disciplined Vogon fleet looks like on arrival...

You think that's neat? Well I think there just may be a new moon in this one!
