NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Craft Begins Adjusting Orbit

First Data from Mars Climate Sounder

Quote:
The Mars Climate Sounder, an instrument on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter designed to monitor daily changes in the global atmosphere of Mars, made its first observations of Mars on March 24, 2006.

These tests were conducted to demonstrate that the instrument could, if needed, support the mission's aerobraking maneuvers (dips into the atmosphere to change the shape of the orbit) by providing hemisphere-scale coverage of atmospheric activity.

Hey, you jinxed it.

News Flash: The HiRISE images release scheduled for April 6 has been postponed due to some server hardware problems. Hopefully they will be released on Friday, April 7. As soon as a date and time are confirmed, it will be posted here.
I wonder why they were having problems adding the correct date... first it was Thursday April 4th, then April 8th...

The perspective view reminds me of what we've been getting from Mars Express.
