Default Hubble wallpaper of the week...

This won't be all that funny or interesting for all that long, but I was greatly amused to notice the featured wallpaper of the week at hubblesite.org:
http://hubblesite.org/gallery/wallpaper/spotlight.php.

Actually, the permanent link goes to http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/new...eases/2000/14/ which would work better had they not confused a prize announcement with the usual monthly Heritage blurb...

(Stop that snickering - I do have a life. Including a 16-year-old who's about to start dating. Note to self: breathe in - out - slowly. Think calming thoughts.)

About that 16-year-old: son or daughter? Just insist on them taking along a phone book. Worked for folks our age didn't it? <snicker>

But getting back to the pic -- every time I see that one, I find more in it. Breathtaking!

If it were a son, I suspect it would be a driving at 16 issue (in lieu of dating)

Because we ALL know that what 16 year old BOYS are likely to do with 16 year old GIRLS is OK for them, but not for the GIRLS.

P.S.
That was sarcasm, in case you missed it.

Oh, he's driving, all right (and actually had much better preparation than I had at the age). But it really bothers him to occasionally drive my minivan, although he will stoop to my wife's Camry with much moaning. I can scarcely describe how little I want to hear the virtues of 4WD pickup trucks daily rehearsed for me. We'll talk when he actually gets one of the jobs he's applied for...

There will be more - there is a long series of 2-color ACS images done for a microlensing study, each of which is substantially deeper than the Heritage data. One of these days I'll get the hang of making the drizzling software work (just when I think I understand getting Python to work, there's a new version...) and there will be a couple of grand combined images capable of removing socks at kiloparsec range. Is there a name for the cosmic law which dictates that when I am in a collaboration of arbitrary size, the most tedious data reduction steps always land on my keyboard?
