Default I will be on BBC Deep Impact TV show

Folks-

I am in Los Angeles right now, prepping to do an interview for a BBC program about the Deep Impact probe. The show will be live on the 4th, with some segments (like mine) pre-taped. We'll be discussing comets in movies, including, duh, "Deep Impact".

I'll have more info later after the shoot, and I'll post here and on my blog.

The show is hosted by Dr. Brian Cox, and yes, the irony of this is not lost on me.

I remember seeing the link for this. Wow, that is ironic, but it sounds like a lof of fun! Unfortunately it doesn't show on BBC America, BBC One is something different. So, will anyone in the US get to see?

Quote:
Comet Impact: Stardate
As America celebrates its independence day with fireworks this July 4th, an even more exciting event will be taking place much further overhead, as scientists prepare to crash a spacecraft into a comet to unlock its secrets. Join Lucie Green and Brian Cox at 11.45 am on BBC ONE and 8.00 pm on BBC TWO for your front-row seat.

Do you know what time the show screens? I'll make a point of trying to watch a TV for this. =D>

So, you would avoid watching a physicist and an astronomer (two, if Phil will be on) just because you're mad at the Evil Environmentalists?

Now, don't cut off your nose :^o to spite your face. [-X

Why do we get the cheesy BBC here on digital cable? I thought when I signed up for digital it was going to be the real BBC one. All they show are a bunch of variety or comedy shows, and one hour of news.

Edit: add question. Why isn't any TV show doing anything on Deep Impact, or is there one? I saw all of ToSeek's links, but it won't be on TV??

Hey BA! Don't forget to say hi to Patrick Moore if you see him. They usually get him on TV to comment on these events. Or have you met him before?

There's going to be NASA TV coverage. Didn't see anything in there about the BBC though.

Speaking of astronomers on the BBC. I saw an episode of The Late Edition late last night (I think it was a really old repeat). It stars Marcus something, a comedian, giving his take on current affairs, including a delightful bit of satire about the citizenship test. They had Colin Pillinger on asking him about the failure of Beagle 2 and they also brought on a "fan space scientist" who wanted to meet Prof Pillinger and ask him about his advice when it comes to their moon probe. Apparently, they were having problems getting the speed up because they could jump on the springboard hard enough. But they did come up with a solution to avoid Beagle 2's fate of getting lost by fitting a million mile dog leash to their moon probe.

Mak, who gets NASA TV?

NASA Television can be seen in the continental United States on AMC-6, at 72 degrees west longitude, Transponder 9, 3880 MHz, vertical polarization, audio at 6.8 MHz. If you live in Alaska or Hawaii, NASA TV can now be seen on AMC-7, at 137 degrees west longitude, Transponder 18, at 4060 MHz, vertical polarization, audio at 6.8 MHz
What the heck? I want to turn on that thing that's in my living room!

Maksutov, it's not what I wanted but thanks. It's not working very well on RealPlayer - all the images are breaking up or are still. It's shuttle stuff at the moment...I can't really hear what's going on. They put up a blue screen with info on it, but it's all foggy. I want a NASA channel on the TV.

I did read the whole thread. 8-[

but I thought that you were just reffering to Deep Impact coverage in general.....

So the BA's program is going to be on NASA TV then?

It's just you were the 2nd Frog to miss what I said. It's OK. No, I don't think he'll be on NASA TV, because the BBC show is what he said he was doing a pre-taped interview for. The BBC show I linked above has been scheduled for some time...wonder how Phil got to get on it. Where are you FrogMarch? Yes, you get to see Phil if you're in the UK. The rest of us in the US are stuck with BBC America, which doesn't have it. Maybe people with satellite dishes in the US get Real BBC.

Edit add: the references to NASA TV were from Mak, for those of us who want to watch general coverage of Deep Impact and will not be able to see the Dr. Cox/BBC/Phil program. But even that isn't working too well for me.

And it looks like Dr.Cox is going to present the BBC1 edition although isn't the impact going to be a 06:52 July 4th?

I'm back home now. We filmed the segment pretty quickly, actually, which surprised me. We were outside, filming at a hotel pool with a great view of the Hollywood hills. Brian Cox and I discussed the movie, and made a few jokes. We filmed some background material for a while, then wrapped. I don't know how long the segment will be, but if it's even 3 minutes I'll be surprised!

Brian and I got along really well. We have a lot in common besides a love and deep respect for the methods of science. We talked a bit about doing some stuff together in the future as well, which would be very cool. I like him.

And what the heck, here's a picture of us from last night:

Well, that's just great, and so ironic considering the thread that Candy had started (now gone) about him. I'm really glad for that now, because I learned so much about FermiLab and that Einstein video (has anyone here ever been to the FermiLab?) It really looks like a neat place. And I especially like the conservation efforts, as well. That would be cool to do future projects. Nice picture of the both of you, too.

It's too bad we in the US can't see the show, three minutes or not. It's looking like the Discovery Channel will be it for me (geesh, the Brits get Pink Floyd and Phil).
