But she is very valuable with her extensive knowledge. She can pass it on to the next generation of Shuttle astr...Oh, never mind.

We've got cars that adjust your driving for you, unmanned aerial vehicles that fly half-way around the world and can land autonomously in a pinch, even most airliners do this.

Shuttle or capsule, there's not much need for a pilot anymore.

Whoever says "perception is reality" is daft. It's merely an abstraction, and often not a very good one.

I feel the need to clarify my previous post. I meant that Eileen herself might have a slim chance of getting back to the top of the rotation with the current slow cycle of flights. Sure she could have taught but I guess she thought other stuff was more important. She might have even got back up again but it would most likely be years and years.

I don't think the shuttle is dead or a waste. I don't think astronauts will be out of a job in the future. Just that for a while, fights are going to be scarce.

Wow, I didn't know that's how NASA determined who flies when. Survival of the fittest astronauts, I guess.

Reminds me of the television show 'The Epilogue', where there was a serious discussion about religion and philosophy between a Catholic monsignor, Edward Gay, and a philosophical writer called Dr. Tom Jack, author of the book, Hello, Sailor!, which then evolved into a wrestling match to determine the existence of God. There was a cut away to continue with the show and finally over the closing credits we heard: "Here are the results from tonight's match: God exists 3 falls to a submission."
