Since US military outspends everybody else in this field it is hardly a race. A development or expansion of capability yes, race no.

Jon.

Colonialism IS Imperialism. Rather than sit here simpering about the failings of historical imperialism, I'd sooner take a lesson from past mistakes and avoid them in the future. If you don't like the feelings these terms invoke, then sit on the sidelines and contemplate your navel while people with a little more ambition get on with the task of re-engineering the definitions so you can feel better about them.

Too much time is spent trying to find new ways of saying what needs to be said because some poor sop might get their feelings hurt using the old terms. Given the level of accuracy and completeness in modern historical documentation, we're eventually going to reach a point where we can't say anything without breaking someone's heart. So to heck with it, I'll call it like I see it, and if someone can't handle it, they can cry. I will not live life shackled by the past. Especially to the memory of defeated demons.
