Default Japan's Lunar-A mission

Japan plans to cancel mission to moon

Quote:
Japan's space agency has recommended scrapping its first moon mission after more than a decade of delays, a spokeswoman said Monday, in the latest blow to the country's beleaguered space program.

The Lunar-A probe was envisioned as planting two seismic sensors on the lunar surface to gather information about the moon's core and learn more about the origins of the Earth's only natural satellite.

Poor guys; sometimes I feel JAXA is the bad luck duck of space agencies.

Hayabusa is on its way back home and should get here in June of 2010. They're hopeful that the sample chamber grabbed some dust.

are they also hopeful to retrieve it? You know, with these comms problems and everything...

Let's hope for them some dust got stuck in the chamber and they can retrieve it, if only due to impacting with the craft itself .
