Default Scans of original Apollo negatives!

This just in, pointed to by nasawatch.com:

Apollo Image Archive

Folks at Arizona State have begun making 14-bit scans of the original negatives at resolution high enough to see the grain. This will expand the revelation from "Full Moon" to the rest of the collection. Cool. Very cool.

It was a nice day when I was able to scan my old photo negatives and realized I was seeing grain. I actually reduced the resolution to the point where the grain was just barely visible to save time (without any actually loss of photographed image quality).

Nice to see the folks at NASA doing the same thing.

I asked for this for myself when the first scans appeared of the original transparencies. I was told to wait. Apparently the wait is over.

Is there a link to the actual scans? I didn't see one - just some very lo-res scans of the various canisters here http://www.lpi.usra.edu/resources/apollo/catalog/70mm/

They've started with the "metric camera" images from the large mapping instruments carried on later (J-series) CSMs. The surface images will come last... The few completed scans I could find are here.

You may also want to see the Project Apollo Archive.
