Wink Angel wants to know...

After telling Angel (My teddy bear) the story of Apollo, he wanted to go into space, too. He asked me to find out if he'd really be setting any records. I've searched, but can't find anything.
Were any stuffed animals taken to the moon?
I know that Magellen T. Bear went up on the shuttle.

Yes. I think. Just a moment while I reread a story.

Nope, it wasn't to the moon, just on a shuttle ride: SELMA SCHWARZWALD AND HER BEAR, "REFUGEE"

In December 2006, Space Shuttle Discovery Commander Mark Polansky took a replica of "Refugee" with him on the shuttle's mission.
From the description of some Personal Preference Kits' contents on Apollo missions, it sounds like small items are the rule. Science@NASA In Search of Moon Trees

Quote:
Their PPKs, or Personal Preference Kits, were often filled with trinkets--coins, stamps or mission patches. Al Shepard took golf balls. On Gemini 3, John Young brought a corned beef sandwich. "My father chose tree [seeds]," says [Stuart Roosa's son].
But, I guess if you could fit a sandwich in there you could have squeezed in a Beanie Baby (or equvialent for the day).

No, but IIRC some of the Apollo Moonwalkers brought a Playboy pic to the Moon.

Actually, the guys who prepared the cuff check lists snuck in some Playboy pix. Just to surprise the men on the moon.

Kiwi reported some research results on this topic here.

Maybe Angel could be tied to the external fuel tank in view of the launch camera. He might make it into space.

There have also been some private orbital flights like Genesis I with toys, possibly including stuffed animals.

Referring to the "stuffed" lunar module?

Snoopy the lander or an actually stuffed Snoopy?

Either way, this is has nothing to do with teddy bears.
According to what I've found, there were several "toys" on both Genesis stations, but what specific toys they were was not mentioned.

Teddy bears can be made exceptionally lightweight and porous. I see no reason why, with reasonable restraint, they can't simply be stuffed in one of the LOX tanks and after the fuel is expended removed, transported back to Earth and sold for several hundred dollars a pop.

That photo was taken aboard ISS a few years back. Best I could do.
Somewhere I have some shots of the little blue alien they keep up there, if you're interested.

And thanks for the A10 Snoopy pic above, I had not seen it before and it made some friends of mine quite happy.
