How do you pronounce Baikonur? I usually say "bacon-ur", but is that right?

Bye-kon-or

And Korea's first astronaut will be a woman (even though she's not the first choice) good for them!

It's part of a triathlon. Swim for 15 minutes, Baikanur, and then run for 30 minutes.

I saw the ISS pass over last night (Devon, England) and was impressed with how much brighter it was than last time I saw it, presumably because of the addition of ATV Jules Verne, crystal clear night and just passed the new moon, pretty, almost poetic.

Q. Does anyone know when expedition 17 will dock with ISS? I can't find any more than Thursday 10th, or, how long it is in the vicinity of the ISS, what I'd like to see is both the ISS and a docking rocket travelling over close to each other but not attached. Previous dockings have been at the wrong point of it's orbit (from my point of view ;-)), but this time ISS is visible for me until the 12th.
Couldn't find anything obvious on NASA or Heavens-Above sites,

thanks klik

Thanks for the responses,
It will have docked by the time it's passing over me tonight :-(
It's also raining and cloudy now; but that's more expected than the snow we had on Sunday; in Devon! in April!

Hatch open.

Edit, 32 minutes past the hour: Oops, they're discussing not opening the hatch until 47 minutes past the hour because that's when the PAO event is. Sounds like they'll open Soyuz hatch now and open the ISS side then. Gotta stick to the script.

I would love to "fly" through the hatch and into the station. Someday, hopefully. For now, I'll make do with dreams and scuba.

Cool! Reminds me of entering the Marine (excuse me...) the United States Marine Quarters Deck of a ship I visited.

Great comraderie. They ribbed me six ways to Sunday because I wasn't of their service.

I ribbed them back.

I lived.

That must account for something...

NASA ISS News: Russian Spacewalkers Retrieve Soyuz Pyro Bolt

Quote:
The spacewalk comes in the wake of ballistic entries by the two most recent Soyuz spacecraft, entries that while safe resulted in high-G rides for the crews and landings hundreds of miles short of the planned recovery area. Russian engineers say they have evidence that failed explosive bolts that help separate two modules likely are responsible.
[...]
They demated electrical connectors and cut a wire tie between adjacent pyro bolts in the suspect position. Volkov unscrewed and retrieved one of the pyro bolts there. With help from Kononenko he stowed it in a protective blast-proof cylindrical case. The spacewalkers installed a thermal blanket over their work area and took photos of the site.
