Default NASA Images at nasaimages.org

About NASA Images

Quote:
NASA Images is a service of Internet Archive ( www.archive.org ), a non-profit library, to offer public access to NASA's images, videos and audio collections. NASA Images is constantly growing with the addition of current media from NASA as well as newly digitized media from the archives of the NASA Centers.

The goal of NASA Images is to increase our understanding of the earth, our solar system and the universe beyond in order to benefit humanity.

Support NASA Images
NASA and Internet Archive entered into a Space Act Agreement in 2007 to create this service, but the Internet Archive receives no financial support from NASA. The project is currently funded through a grant from the Kahle-Austin Foundation. We are actively looking for additional financial support in the form of grants and sponsorships. If your organization would like to support this important project, we want to hear from you. Please contact us at info@archive.org .

To Come:
Continuous updating of the media collections. Custom prints of the images with NASA Images.org.

Space and science-related books and other merchandise through affiliate relationships.

We will encourage visitors to use these services to help support this project.

archive.org is a fabulous site, especially if you're a Deadhead (I'm not). It has over 3,000 Grateful Dead concerts there - probably every one they've ever done.
I first came across the site about four years ago. I recommend everyone to check it out.
What's nice is that everything there is public domain, so can be downloaded legally - text, music and movies.

Wow. Just checking out http://www.nasaimages.org/ . Looks good.

Like, you click on the Astronauts category and the search engine coughs up:

Quote:
1-50 of 15065
303 pages of thumbnails, 50 thumbnails per page. That will keep you busy browsing.

This is from nasaimages, but not one of the astronauts: but you may recognize the bad person.

For some reason, when I tried to see the larger versions of the pictures at school, the blocker wouldn't let me.

Yeah, it is kind of hard to look for something specific...

I should mention that it's probably still in its shakedown period. Earlier, I tried to access that above "bad person" (OK, it's the BA, doing his egg-balancing act, from APOD) link, and it replied with some variety of server-error.

Just now, I requested the main page and all that would draw was the background, with only a search box.

Be patient with it if it's acting up.

There are search facilities, but I'm not sure how well keyword-tagged are all the images. The search function did find me 3 "plait" images, the abovementioned, and, I forget, a couple maybe-Hubble objects for which he might have been part of the team.
