Default Nov. 14, 2008 Space Shuttle Endeavor Launch

There is a brief commercial before video starts. Sorry.

Wish this was broadcast on major channels.

Enjoy.

Saw that too from my backyard. I'm right up the road from you. It's humid tonight. Yuck!

Most of the Houston stations carried the launch. I tuned in seconds before the shuttle left the ground.

Wow, your video quality was so much better then mine. You even look closer despite the fact that I am up in Brevard County. I wish I could share mine but unfortunately I think I would be breaking board rules. I was standing in my living room door and figured I would record the first few seconds of lift off from the television but when I took a quick glance into my back yard, I realized that the whole northern horizon was completely lit up and blurted out a few explicit words. It's not even worth sharing though because it was all blurry. My camcorder just kept autofocusing on the trees. What a sight to see, though.

I want a launch site in my backyard. I used to have a nuclear power plant in my backyard (well, 500 meter behind my back yard). But that one never launched stuff. Maybe it was for the better...

Most, if not all, noise complaints to the airforce base where I was based came from people recently moving in to that area. It was very rare to receive a complaint from any of the locals in the villages near the runways.

Yes, me too. I think I'm going to live next to one when I retire. Or perhaps next to the Cape, or Mojave.

If you really are in the Netherlands, then I'm the jealous one. Just purchased a print of a Dutch farm setting by S. Wieringa at an estate sale. Never heard of the artist, but his/her work is very beautiful and peaceful.

When I retire, I think I will be somewhere in the Great smoky Mountains, but I just heard a report that the air isn't so clean... Here in Florida the air is some of the cleanest, being a peninsula.

I have asthma and the night of the shuttle launch, I could hardly breathe, the humidity was 90%.

Hmmm, they did throw us out of our house to expand the port...

But if you want an idea of how close I lived to the power plant (a big 4 reactor one, no tiny stuff), look up this one:

Google maps link

The flag is in my former back yard. Upwards of it are 2 fields, then the nuclear power plant starts. Scroll up to see more of it.

So yes, my neighbour had a nuclear power plant .

That's very close. Nice.
My parents used to live on an oil refinery compound in Libya, and I did too, for about 4 months of the year. The refinery was HUGE. Very impressive machinery.
