The Russians were also working on Mir 2, and much of the hardware and experience went into their contribution to the ISS. So there is more than just SS Freedom heritage in the ISS.

To be sure. The ISS is essentially a merger of SSF and Mir 2. From Wikipedia:

In 1993, the Clinton administration announced the transformation of Space Station Freedom into the International Space Station (ISS). NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin supervised the addition of Russia to the project.

It's like a mosaic. Put all the pieces from all over together and they look wonderful.

My dad accidentally called the ISS "Freedom" once. I cracked up.

It does. One magazine I read got confused and called it the "International Alpha Station". Whoops.

That’s the Space Station, of course. The Soyuz escape module is on the left, the robot arm on the right, and an array of mechanical equipment studs the station. You really can get a feel for how this thing was built to operate where gravity need not apply.
