Default Lapel Pin for British Astronauts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8133056.stm

What puzzles me is its resemblance to a V2... weren't we on the receiving end of these back in WWII?

Edit: Actually wanted to post this to Bad Astronomy Stories. Mods feel free to move if more appropriate.

it also looks like those plastic rockets that i had as a kid that used water and compressed air to launch, as well.

It's supposed to look like the "classic" SF rockets of the 50s, which were mostly V2-derived, yes.

It looks similar to Science Fiction's Hugo award, which also uses a classic rocket motif.

More germaine is the fact that it closely resembles the emblem of the Bnterplanetary Society http://www.bis-spaceflight.com/ who produced the pin in the first place.
