Post Red Spot Jr. is Getting Stronger

Jupiter's newly formed Red Spot Jr. is increasing in strength, according to new observations from the Hubble Space Telescope. These latest measurements clock its windspeeds at 640 kph (400 mph); almost double the speeds recorded by the Voyager spacecraft when it observed one of the spot's parent storms in 1979. The increased windspeed probably dredged up deeper material from the planet, changing its colour from white to red, similar to the Great Red Spot.

Why is the Red Spot red? Wiki didn't have the answer.

It is not known. Some phosphorus compounds are suspected.

Why does't spectral analysis work to determine elemental/molecularal characteristic radiation?

The chemistry is probably some long chain polymers each with indistinct absorption spectra.

Default Carbon chemistry?

Long chain polymers? Carbon polymers, perhaps? With occasional sulfur and phosphorous atoms? Hmm - sounds like a recipe for simple life forms.

Necessary, but not sufficient...

Default Hydrogen Phosphide

I recall an old article quoting hydrogen phosphide as the culprit...Pete.

Hmm - sounds like a recipe for simple life forms.

One of my old astronomy books (1970's) considered Jupiter to be a good place to look for life. I think that since then there has been a conclusion that the radiation would likely be too much for life to be sustained.
