I have several questions about an extremely rare event. I understand that on December 21st, 2012, that the Earth will be located in the exact center of the Milky Way Galaxy every 26,000 years. At that same time, the Earth will wobble on it's axis, which is also a 26,000 year event. What exactly will happen then? Will anything be noticable?? Are the two events related, meaning one happens because of the other?? Where can I get more info on this really cool event??

Oh yeah.... how could the Mayan indians have discovered such an extreme cosmological event??

What a novel idea. But I think I would rather not be in the center of the Milky Way at any time. Those umpti-bajillion solar mass black holes scare me.

Seriously, I think you are misinformed. The sun travels nicely around the Milky Way well away from the center. That's probably an important reason why we’re here to discuss it.

The Mayans (and the Aztecs) had a wonderful calendar. But please, don't attribute it to ET's. To do so denigrates human achievement. We humans are, even as early civilizations, capable of amazing things. Once writing became available, probably independently in both the Eastern and Western worlds, then knowledge could be passed from generation to generation and long term analyses became possible. That should give the Mayans a thousand years or so to figure it out.
