BAD BAD ASTRONOMY!

Quote:
Fraser Cain: Consider the following: we've got tides here on Earth, there's the fact that the Moon only shows one face to the Earth, we've got volcanoes on Io, and ice geysers on Enceladus, and all these phenomena originate from a common cause: the force of gravity stretching across space to tug at another world.

Thats a newbie for me, I was unaware that the force of gravity was able to ionize particles and then accelerate them away from the moons, wow gravity really is amazing!

Quote:
So unlike Io, which is so torn up that volcanoes are bursting out of the surface, Europa is still being maintained as fairly warm, so there's believed to be an ocean of liquid water on the surface, with a crusty shell of ice surrounding that. How thick is that shell believed to be?

Quote:
When the geysers go off, they're shooting liquid out into the cold of space. Now the thing is, just like a snow machine, when you spray mist into the air, it freezes into ice crystals. These geysers are basically the largest snow-making machines in the solar system. This ice then gets gravitationally trapped and it ends up forming part of the material in the rings. What's cool is the distribution of these particles actually forms a kind of double-ring. You don't end up with a perfectly flat ring, instead you end up with two rings slightly above and below one another. Fraser: Astronomers were able to trace back these particles right back to Enceladus.
shooting liquid out into the cold of space?? in tightly colliminated "jets"??

Quote:
Exactly. So we know where they come from, we know what's creating them, and we understand the physics behind them. It's just a really neat thing to get to experience because these are all discoveries that have just been made in the past year and a half. This was a discovery made back in March of 2006. Now we're starting to find geysers around other moons as well. Who's to know how may of these things we're going to end up finding? It's an active and dynamic solar system out there, and in these cases, what we're seeing isn't created by the Sun heating things up, but by gravity heating things up. We've identified a new source of heat that can be used to cause planets and moons to be geologically active .

Bad bad astronomy!

Well done Frasor!

Gravity the lowliest force in the universe can indeed, because "we understand the physics behind them" create such wonderful phenomena as charged particles moving along filed aliened currents and can connect planets to their moons via flux tubes, even when the tidal flexing relies on elliptical orbits of which some of these active moons do NOT have.

And the article goes on about Phobos being 1400km inside the roche limit and still going strong, I thought GRAVITY was suposed to rip apart any "moon" inside this limit? or do you think they may be wrong?

It's full of holes big enough to fir Phobos thru!

Gravity the lowliest force in the universe
Gravirty is the weakest force not the lowliest force.

who said anything about ionizing particles.

Exactly!!!

Cassini and previous missions to Saturn have measured the prevalence of energetic particles around the orbit of Enceladus. According to calculations by Cooper's team, the particles can more than account for the several gigawatts of power fuelling the

But a new research found that Saturn's magnetic field lines, rooting from the core of a magnetized planet, are being forced to remain behind the rotation of the planet due to the electrically charged particles originating in the vapor and ice geysers of Enceladus.

This was detected by two Cassini instruments, the radio and plasma wave instrument and the magnetometer.

The gas particles expelled by the geysers of Enceladus form a torus surrounding Saturn and when they are electrically charged, the particles get attracted into Saturn's magnetic field, creating a disk of ionized gas (plasma) around the planet's equator that weighs down the magnetic field. The induced slippage causes the radio period to be left behind the planet's actual rotation period.

We can distinguish three main energization regions within Saturn’s inner magnetosphere: minimum (Saturn’s ionosphere), intermediate (Dione) and high-energy (Enceladus and the E-ring). The resulting energy spectrum follows a power-law distribution (>1 keV), a logistic, an exponential decay or an asymmetric sigmoidal (<1 keV).

The primary constituents observed are the so-called water group ions, presumably the result of various electron impact, ion-molecule and solar UV induced reactions with water vapor evolved from icy surfaces.

And on it goes, so why no mention of this phenomena in the above pod cast? Strange!

Whats ATM about that?

Just because "Astronomers" aren't sure why? because they do not understand the phenomena?

Davidplf, please explain your above ad hom flame attempt?

You were trying to promote the EU theory like you do in Q&A section of the board, and "Astronomers" apperantly have good idea what is causing it.

Am I?

So why would the pod cast leave out plasma?

Do they not think it's important?

because unless they mention plasma, "Astronomers" apparently have good idea what is causing it, is totally misleading.

They are still stabbing in the dark

I made no mention of the Electric universe, nor will I, less I be banned again.

but...

plasmas, charged particles, magnetosphere, plasmaspheres, field aligned currents, flux tubes, "solar wind" are all in the "mainstream" explanation!
