How did the 1 to 3 Solar mass star survive the supernova explosion of the star it was orbiting, and what kind of changes would it's orbit undergo?
normally, when I think of Swift, I think of GRB's. However, it seems that SWIFT captured a sort-of reverse Type 1a. Instead of the white dwarf capturing material from it's neighbour, the dwarf is losing it's stuff.
The thought of "naked" stars is pretty cool. Is this what white dwarfs will look like trillions of years from now when they finally "die"?
