I love hearing about how these photographs of the Earth were "unscheduled." I'm glad the Apollo 8 crew took some time out of their schedule for this!

Gene Kranz said in his book that photographs like this "provided the environmental movement with a powerful visual expression of the concept of Spaceship Earth."
