Default First Images from LRO

Woohoo! NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has taken its first images of the Moon! There are two cameras on board which combine to create the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, or LROC. They were both activated June 30, and their "first light" images were of a region in the lunar highlands south of Mare [...]

Woohoo!? You think you're Phil Plait all of a sudden? Where is the sober and serious Fraser we all love?

I think I will be spending a lot of time going back to that site.

A question, if I may ask in this thread. As I zoom in on some of the images, and scroll slowly along, some areas will suddenly have just a square spot, where the resolution shows nothing, if I zoom out one notch, it appears just fine. Is that just a matter of insufficient data for that particular location, or possibly my computer just failing to resolve the graphics properly?

Sounds like it may not have loaded the images properly, or the server is overloaded.
You could try downloading the raw image and viewing that.
The link is to the right.

I created a GoogleEarth overlay which turns it into... GoogleMoon!

I also added links to currently available LRO images.

I'd like to compare LRO imahes to old lo-res images:where could I search Moon images by latitude and longitude?

Try asking this in the Questions & Answers forum. I don't think many people read here.
