Hello Fraser,
I was thinking, why don't you build a php-script for your news? Its easy to make (easier then a forum) and its really effective.

I don't understand either. I'm using a Perl publishing program for the actual Universe Today website which then integrates with this forum software so people can comment on various stories.

I think that php is a much better scripting language than Perl, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Seems to be working very well indeed.

Perl's very dated now but I think it's still quite popular... I've used it and it's great for generating HTML on the fly, but I know absolutely zip about PHP LOL
