I was 29 when I got married. And I worked some really weird hours when I was dating my wife.
Like 2 PM to 10 PM two weekdays, Friday was always 2 PM to midnight, and on Saturday it was 10 Pm to 6 AM, and Sunday 10 PM to 8 AM. Monday and Tuesday off. Now what's more weird then that. But the woman loved me enough to find out when was the best time to visit me, or have me visit her. She knew the hours and conditions of my work and accepted them without question or comment. Then later on I got a different job with rotating shifts. Two weeks of days, then three days off and 10 consective days on each 2nd and 3rd shifts with three days off between moving to the next shift. She even tolerated that without problems. The job I have now is straight 2nd shift, weekends off unless I have overtimeavailabe, and even then with a lot of flexability, and that was when she started giveing me crap. She never said a word about mixing shifts, working weekends, graveyard shift, or manditory 80 hours a week. But with each time hours become more flexible, she began to not like it more and more, and started demanding more and more for time off, vacations, and turning down overtime. Now she gives me hell whenever I take overtime, unless it's near a gift giving occasion, or if it's to raise money for something she wants, or wants me to get. Now we are coming up on our 15th anniversey. So the moral of the story. Don't worry about a woman not liking you working strange hours, or even a lot of hours. As long as she understands your work schedule, she will likely be supportive. But if your hours ever becomes flexible, don't tell her, because then she will start demanding you make consessions for her. |

Simply accept that you're never right and the world will continue to revolve (around us that is)! I bet all the women of the forum hate me now! ![]() But there's not much introducing going on, maybe we should open a new thread to whinge about the Venus/Mars thing!

Hi Fraser and rest of you all, my name's Jill - another Aussie
I've been receiving the newsletter for a couple of years now and love it, and I'm often clicking on the forum links at the bottom to read your thoughts about different topics. Compared to some of you guys, I know practically nothing about astronomy etc, but I've always been interested in space and the plethora of subjects that go with it. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say 'Good work!' to both Fraser and to the regular participants in the forum who always have such interesting arguments :P Jill.

Hi, Everyone
I just turned 16, and I joined a few weeks ago under the name StarLab. My real name is Grant, and I'm a resident of SoCal. I personally enjoy this website because of its popular Forum and up-to-date news. I am based at Milken Community High School. Since seventh grade I have been very interested in cosmology, chemistry and, most recently, physics. I am interested in hearing other people's views on these subjects, and would like to contribute some of my own thoughts. Fraser, you da man! |

Hello to you all,
I have not joined many (or any) forums in the past despite many years trawling the inernet - so I had get the the feel of the thing first. I dove into rogues gallery first because it was the newest link shown I guess. After the initial mistake of entering without truelly following the link I have now posted a long distance mug shot on there. My name is Andy Burns, 51, married with 2 grown up children (still hanging on and costing me money - my daughter has just started university at Sussex). I live in Chippenham, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. After ducking out of teaching, I got into the book printing business and set up a business 5 days after my son was born, 21 years ago. This curtailed my leanings towards astronomy - too much work, not enough money - until around 12 years ago I was lucky enough to get a telescope and join a local young astronomical society (Wiltshire AS). www.wasnet.org.uk. I did some 'serious' astronomical study using distance learning at the university of central Lancashire. I now do a 20pp newsletter per month, organise the viewing nights, give talks and links to local schools, and do a monthly radio broadcast on the local BBC programs. It's a good job the children are grown up! I also play golf, but here at least I share with my wife as we both play together. The work bit is relevant - I have the tools at work to print the newsletter, and it has got me around the world, though not below the equator yet. Universe today is a great site that I found about a year ago while trawling around for updated information to prepare for the live radio show - you can get questions on anything - so this web site is brilliant Fraser. |
