As long as you're showing images of this piece, I'd like to see a close-up of the detail along the sides. Is that stain, inlay, of something else?

hi tech :P
got the images off clip art and a local engraver with a computor controlled lazer was able to copy pixel by pixel the pictures and the patterns even to a single clear pixel .2 mm across and engraved around it for .3 mm deep.
the hollows were filled with ebony wood dust and animal glue and sanded scraped and varnished over to form a very permanent pattern.
even a revarnish in 50 years time will not effect it

sorry have no pics of the side and cant down load clip art

hi i am sunil, height 5'11.5 father of 2 daughters, an officer with public related..
i came here to increase the lake of friendship of long lasting, very familier to all. i don't believe in demotivation, i relent on motivation since i am motivating people for a good work. I normally praise to all, that's my universal business, i always stick with humour, becuase making or hearing humour makes lot of sense and it is essetial for every man on this earth, my english is always floats in the "laughing-crator". my relatives are in UK,USA,Australia. one is doctor, second is gm who was in motorola now he is in versant, one in australia (they are running their own company)they were in melborne later came sydney before viala.

On my mind there is a very good impression of the canadian peoples who mate me in Nepal long back say some 16 years back. I am interested in writing, and looking stars of the midnight( when i have get time to see). I am also interested in screen writing but the essential tool i have not yet available hence the dream of screen writing is in doldrum.(guide)

finally, the Universe Today is a very nice Junction of the writer's train-line :D

I close, but before that you can send me e/mail, PM without any hesitation, be familiar always,

sunil

Great schematics, Sunil!

Humour is such an important part of our lives that we should never neglect it, especially the ability to laugh at oneself!!

Hi there

I'm new to this forum, but I've been a subscriber to the newsletter from this site for a while now. My name is, as you've probably gathered by now, Fahad and am a multimedia engineering student at the University of Lund, Sweden. Astronomy has been
a part of me since I was about six. I really enjoy doing astronomical art.

I'm looking forward to becoming a part of this community.

All the best,
Fahad S, Astronomical Artist.

Hi all,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I couldn't reply immediately(The days are sooo short just 24 hrs ) I've started star gazing regularly. I am keeping a notebook for keeping track of what all i've seen. then i try to plot roughly the stars. The skychart at skayandtelescope.com is a real help though its not detailed. I've only binoculars and have seen Jupiter, Orion, Orion Nebula, Canis Mojor and Scorpius and Sagittarius. I am very excited becoz i didnt think i'ld locate the all these in 2 days. Was doubtful at first whether i was correct. Then it seemed that was the only possible answer.

Is there anything which I should look out for specifically? Any mistakes a beginner is bound to make? All advice B) accepted I didnt know where to post this, so i'm doing it here in introduction section.

Hoping to evolve from Dust Speck to Universe

The only thing you might want to look at is the forum rules. Other than that just keep on posting!

galaxygirl, guess what he's (TheBlackRider) asking is some tips on doing observational astronomy but it's good you mentioned the rules so it could guide him in his postings here. I'm just a beginner like you, TheBlackRider (TBR), but just make your skymap up-to-date. Skymaps.com releases new skymap every month. By the way, could you tell us your location, TBR? There's a skymap for the northern hemisphere and for southern hemisphere. You're in trouble if you live near the equator like me! Also, their guide to magnitude of brightness can sometimes be deceiving. There was a time when I was looking for a certain number of stars in a particular place indicated by the map. I couldn't find them not because I can't see them but there were many stars brighter than they are near them and more numerous not indicated in the map!

By the way, UT can also update you with things going on up there. Sometimes, the moon can hide some bright stars you seek but only for a short time.
