4 boys? Yikes. I've got just the two, and barely have enough time to remember to even breathe sometimes. Our son, Logan, has made the baby proofing problem much more difficult, now that he's thinking about destruction in 3-dimensions. He's pushing chairs around, climbing them and then up onto table. I can't imagine multiplying that by 4.

BTW, Is your name short for Department of Motor Vehicles Professor? That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw it.

Some textbook considers UT an essential website? That's crazy. Can you take a picture of the page and send it to me? info@universetoday.com

That's very great news for UT, aeolus! We have a meeorological agency here and it has an astronomy section. The section chief and the division chief find UT very helpful in their research in variable star. I sent them emails with links to UT articles and that was how they came to appreciate UT. The division chief is already a subscriber of UT.
Hey, Anton! Maybe that's Department of Meteorology and Volcanology Professor. We have separate agency for each as we have a handful of active volcanoes and plenty of extinct ones here, and we're visited by an average of 21 typhoons every year! (remember Pinatubo Volcano? This one affected the earth's atmosphere somehow, sending ashes to nearby countries. We had ashfall for weeks! bad for telescope lenses) |

Hi Everyone,
My name is Jim and I work for an aerospace corp. here in sunny south Florida in the fuels lab. I am more a chemist than an astronomer/physicist. I am at the 1/2 century mark and have an 11 year-old son. We are both attending school (different ones of course). We have 3 shelties and I work 2nd shift here in the lab. |

Welcome, Jim! Glad to have you aboard! B)

For example- A Smart Thing He's Done. On Monday this week he 'accidently' hacked into the school computer systems and ended up with full Admin controls, he had control of everything, including the ability to change EVERYBODY'S passwords! Luckily he did the smart/moral thing and told an IT Technision, who we happen to best friends with, they're now fixing the problem. A Dumb Thing He's Done A couple of months ago he had problems with hs computer, so he took it apart to try to fix it ... without wearing an anti-static band! Why is this dumb? Because the staic from his clothes/hands caused the PC's processor to explode! Oh, and he could of been killed, luckily he wasn't, but his parents wern't that impressed. Anyway Mike if your reading this a few words of advice- 1) Read the forum rules and stick to them 2) Keep you replies clean, this site has a good reputation, don't wreck it. 3) And please don't try to hack UT. Anyway hope you have a good time here Mike, don't make anyone go as crazy as me made me go! Oh and Hi Jim! Hope you have a nice time here.

Hello, I'm Rongwrong, and a newbie here. I'm in 11th grade at an Australian high school. My math isn't spectacular but I'm good at science and since I'm disturbingly single-minded and slightly misanthropic, I've devoted most of my grey matter solely to astronomy and cosmology. I'm hoping to study astronomy and physics at uni, and ultimately work in research astronomy, but I'm sure hanging around here should keep my curiosity satisfied 'til then.

Welcome to UT, Rongwrong and Lainie.
Rong - I'm in 11th grade as well, I live in Los Angeles, CA, USA. As disturbingly single-minded and slightly misanthropic, you'll fit right in with the rest of us. And for sure, hanging around UT will definitely keep you satisfied if you stick around...you'll find that many members of UT could be living down the street from you (lotta Aussies here). We look forward to hearing your knowledge of astronomy and cosmology, since we all carry that same love for What's Out There. Lainie - glad to meet someone within my own borders. It's getting lonely here. I'm glad your son chose to devote his soul and his time to such a wonderful subject/experience. BTW, nice webpage. |
