Yo, guys (and especially Fraser), I got a couple of suggestions yo':

Member of the month: a little something to inspire the members (the mods don't need inspiration, they're all perfect). Every month, Fraser selects a 'Member of the Month,' based on a member's contributions, measured of course by quality not quantity.

Challenge of the week: a little something of fun, every week Fraser assigns a 'task' to all members, guest and mods - go see a particular movie, rent a particular tape from a video/DVD rental store (like BlockBuster), go to a social event for stargazers nationwide, listen to a radio broadcast, read a book, watch something on TV, do some internet research, etc. - and the like. At the end of each week, we set up a string for those who completed the task, and we all discuss it - whether or not we liked it, what we did in order to accomplish it, etc. Then, Fraser assigns us another task for the next week, etc. Just a nice, fun thing to get us involved with the world of science OUTSIDE of UT, then talk about it on the forum. Should be fun, if Fraser and the mods elect to do it.

Feel free to post any comments, question or concerns regarding this post.
In addition, you may post your own suggestions for UT not relating to this string if you wish...but only after some discussion on the ideas presented in this post have taken place.

Enjoy,
StarLab

Wow! Nice idea; but who's going to do all the work?

We could probably do those things ourselves. Go ahead starlab, choose something for us to do, Im game.

Also, I was thinking maybe someone could put some star charts on to the forums. I know I could probably just look it up, but Im just too lazy <_< , and I would like it from a source i can trust. We could also have a post of the week or something. We could vote on it or Fraser and the mods could choose it. I dunno, what do you think?

Post of the week? Nah. But star charts - that sounds doable. But only if we put it in the Astrophotography section as a pinned string.

Starcharts sound good, but if you check out the links on the Web Resources thread, I'm sure you can find some.

And if you're trying to think of things to observe, read Dave Mitsky's monthly AstroCalander in Observational Astronomy.
