I recently encountered an article suggesting that if ET is sending signals in space, they are doing so in an encrypted (for efficiency) form which will look like noise to us. Is the SETI group attempting to decrypt the signals they're receiving by just trial and error? That is, try treating the signals as a code, and trying to break it using trial-and-error methods?
